John Travis Gibson, MD, FAAP
BOARD CERTIFIED PEDIATRICIAN
Dr. Gibson, a native Texan raised in Georgetown, has always been drawn to working with children. As a high school student, he began volunteering at kids’ camps and leading school clubs. When he was a teenager, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Going through surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation treatment at a young age was difficult, but observing the compassionate doctors, nurses, and medical staff who cared for him piqued an interest in medicine as a future career. He is grateful now to be cancer-free since 1999.
Upon graduation from high school, Dr. Gibson followed the family tradition of attending Baylor University, where he majored in Chemistry. While at Baylor, he met his best friend and future wife, Amanda, and in 2006 they were married in the small church they attended together. He then went on to complete medical school at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, followed by a pediatric residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Dr. Gibson joined Heritage Pediatrics in 2013.
He enjoys partnering with families to help make the best health decisions for children. “I want to support the growth of the whole child – physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Being a pediatrician is more than just diagnosis and treatment.” Dr. Gibson believes that good health and wellness start with each choice we make. “I want to encourage you, your child, and your family to make healthy choices every day.” Outside of work, he spends his time with his family, his church, reading, exercising, and being a Baylor University sports fan.
